Character name: Tyrsani
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Made on SubetaHQ
Tyrsani is thin for his height because he is such a stress case that sometimes he forgets to eat. At five feet nine inches, he is on the short side for a young man. He has dark brown, chin length hair that has warm, medium brown highlights in the sun and dark brown eyes. Tyrsani has skin that tends toward the lighter end of the spectrum and burns, but has never burned badly enough to peel.
His clothes fit well and are usually in shades of dark red that seem to give his hair redder highlights. Tyrsani is very glad he's not a girl and isn't expected to wear skirts and dresses, because they'd be inconvenient for someone who could be clambering around the Weyr and dragons at any time, and he's sure he'd manage to trip repeatedly.
The quickest way to describe Tyrsani is that he is a worrier. This comes as no surprise to anyone who has known him for long, because on his bad days, the kind where even getting out of bed was a bad idea, he is the personification of Murphy's Law. On those days, he can almost be described as paranoid. His better days happen more often than his bad days, but the bad days are plentiful enough to have Tyrsani a stress case. He has a tendency to keep his emotions hidden, but when they get too much he will lash out at whoever is nearest.
He is very careful and hardly ever does anything without thinking about every aspect of what he might do. Tyrsani can sometimes miss out on the more spontaneous things in life because he is so busy dithering about what he ought to do. He can and will lead and is good at it because he thinks so much about how what he does will affect other people.
Tyrsani takes insults very hard and they can lead him onto a downward spiral of self-examination. This is only brought into a negative feed-back loop by his perfectionist tendencies. These are almost never turned outward and only in times of greatest stress will he nitpick at someone else. He is his own harshest critic and has a lot of problems accepting praise, usually brushing it off as just part of his job or pointing out even the most miniscule flaws in his own work. Tyrsani tends to get stressed more easily when there is a sudden change in his routine.
Born on the fourteenth day of the sixth month of Turn 435 of the Interval, Tyrsani is the only child of T'yarn of Brown Issooth and Sanil of Green Zheth, riders at Igen Weyr. Although he was a flight baby, his mother had had a hard time getting pregnant, so she kept Tyrsani rather than taking "a short dragon ride." Like most Weyr children, he was raised in the creche, but unlike some, Tyrsani had a somewhat close relationship with his parents. They came to see him as much as they could in between their duties as dragonriders. As all children do, the boy got into trouble for one reason or another, but most often for the fact that he would lose track of time watching and helping with the dragons and was often late to the lessons with the Weyrharper.
Tyrsani got permission from the Headwoman and the Weyrlingmaster to start standing for clutches as soon as his fifteenth birthday hit. He had no luck standing for eight months, and then Thread started to fall. He knew that this meant there would be plenty more clutches for him to stand at before he aged out of Candidacy, so he didn't have to think of a back-up plan yet. Tyrsani lost his parents within the first month of Fall; they were good riders, and good people, but nobody had enough practice fighting Thread. It wasn't as devastating for him as it might have been for someone born in the holds or crafts, because he wasn't as close to his parents as they would be, but it was still hard for him. His parents' deaths motivated him to start training as a Dragonhealer: that way, even if he didn't Impress, he could be around dragons and help them.
Four Turns after he'd started standing, he still hadn't Impressed, and he knew the basics of dragonhealing well enough that he'd been newly advanced to Journeyman. Even with his new rank, he still wanted to Impress, and when heard that Igen was letting some of its Candidates go to Western, he decided to volunteer. Maybe he'd have better luck Impressing there, and a place that had so little would need dragonhealers for when their dragons got hurt. Even if Western Weyr was just like High Reaches and too sharding freezing to be a reasonable place to live, the dragonets wouldn't have so much choice in candidates and maybe, just maybe that was why he hadn't Impressed yet; the hatchlings had simply been spoiled for choice.
Tyrsani wants to Impress and doesn't really care where he ends up doing it or what color his dragon turns out to be. As far as his craft goes, as a newly promoted journeyman, Tyrsani plans to learn as much as he can about dragonhealing, though if he Impresses, it is highly unlikely that he will ever make it to Master. Even without Impression, Mastery is a lofty goal, but one that he dreams of reaching should a dragon never be hatched that fits him.

Each joint on her body seems prominent and finely articulated, the overall effect being that it looks like she could really stand to eat, say, a whole herdbeast. No amount of gorging will ever put a lot of weight on her, however, so her Pet will simply have to get used to the occasional bony firelizard elbow accidentally poking him in the cheek. Her hide is a lovely shade of verdant green, paling rather drastically to a slightly yellow-touched hue on her wing sails, her neck ridges, and one spot right on the tip of her nose.
In spite of her pointy and rather fearsome appearance, this green is as motherly as any firelizard of her color could ever hope to be. She's doting and patient, ever supportive and comforting, or chiding and scolding if she needs to be. Her primary duty in life is to take care of her Pet, because obviously in her mind he needs some taking care of. If his hair is mussed she'll try to make it neat, and if he has a spot on his face she will absolutely wipe (or in this case, lick) it clean. For a flit, she is fastidiously neat, and won't tolerate messiness about her Pet or in his living area. Of course, all firelizards have their foibles, and for her it's shiny things. She adores shiny things, from buttons to spoons to the big metal pots in the kitchens. If it's small enough for her to carry, then she'll make off with it, but never fear; all of her shinies are kept neatly in one place, so it won't be hard to find them and return them to their rightful owners.

Chiaroscuroth
Theme: Rat
Credit: Isra
Image Base By: Mistywren
Name Based On: Chiaroscuro, which means “light-dark” in Italian; it is also the name of the primary rat character in Kate DiCamillo's “The Tale of Despereaux” novels.
Color: Bronze, #D4A000/977300/ffd56b
Rank: Weyrling
Clutch: Gold Phediath and Bronze Ulaith
Personality:
A charming, witty little fellow. Chiaroscuroth is chipper and sprightly, far unlike the normal proud, regal, overinflated personality one might expect from a bronze dragon. He's friendly and bright, quite personable to most, if in a slightly reserved fashion. Though a touch shy at first, it doesn't take much to draw him out of his shell, so to speak. He genuinely enjoys the company of others and will carry on a conversation with most anyone who's willing to chat with him, or who at least doesn't mind listening to him chatter on about one thing or another. And chatter on he will; Chiaroscuroth will dominate a conversation without really trying to, even if what he's talking about is mundane and inconsequential. He doesn't mean to, of course, and will be contrite when he discovers that he is, but it happens frequently nonetheless.
It's rare for Chiaroscuroth to lose his temper. He doesn't really have much of one, to be honest, and generally prefers to avoid confrontation than get involved in a spat, but even he can get roused to irritation. When he does, he puffs himself up both literally and figuratively with indignation. He certainly won't get into any sort of physical altercation, but he'll have no problem telling the offender off, though to be perfectly honest he hardly comes off as intimidating. Being small doesn't help, but the fact that his voice tends to break and squeak when he gets angry makes it incredibly difficult for anyone to take him seriously.
Being a dragon, Chiaroscuroth honestly doesn't understand why T'sani spends so much of his time worrying about things. Because he is worried, though, Chiaroscuroth will be worried as well, even if he doesn't really know why and tends to forget that he should be worried fairly rapidly afterward. But oh, when it's on his mind, will he worry! Worry worry worry, and he'll chat about it with his friends; did you know we're short on cloth? Oh yes, it's positively dreadful! Why? Well... well, we need cloth, of course! There are some things that he does understand the necessity of worrying over, like food and Threadfall and firestone, but by and large he only worries because he thinks T'sani needs the emotional support. Every now and again he will try to talk his rider out of being so upset, though he generally has mixed results.
He also doesn't understand why T'sani wants to do the same thing at the same time every day. Routine is all but a foreign concept to him, and while he'll have to acquiesce that some things simply happen routinely as a matter of course, by and large Chiaroscuroth tries to avoid being predictable like it's a plague. He won't sun in the same place two days in a row, or even at the same time unless the sun is particularly good then. When he hunts, he tries not to eat the same thing twice, and he absolutely abhors it if he and T'sani have to do sweeps over the same area more than once. Given T'sani's love of his routine, they will be at odds on this matter quite a bit, particularly since Chiaroscuroth doesn't like upsetting his rider when he does break routine. Spontaneity is just so much more fun, engaging and entertaining him, and while he might try to conform to a patter to spare T'sani's sanity, he generally ends up going stir-crazy and breaking away from routine in a big, exuberant way. They'll need to find some sort of happy medium to keep from driving each other crazy.
Weyrlinghood:
At first, it will seem as though Chiaroscuroth will excel at Weyrling training. He'll practically devour every lesson he's taught... but then things will start getting rough. Doing the same thing day after day, repeating the same lessons... Chiaroscuroth loathes the same old boring routine, and will quickly seek to find other diversions to entertain himself with. It'll be up to T'sani to help keep him focused, and to keep him from trying something rash and dangerous if he should get bored. Being the imaginative sort, Chiaroscuroth may very well get himself involved in a few pranks here and there just to liven things up a bit.
Being a small bronze, T'sani will have an easier time than most in dealing with his dragon's growth spurts. Chiaroscuroth will grow steadily and evenly, which will at least have the advantage of giving his rider one less thing to worry about, though T'sani will need to make sure he doesn't overexert himself and strain a growing muscle.
Mating Flights:
Though his small size will mean it'll be incredibly difficult for him to stand a chance at catching a queen, Chiaroscuroth will still try for it nonetheless, and he'll definitely go after greens. He'll be one of the few bronzes capable of keeping up with the nimble, wily antics, as well. What he lacks in stamina, however, Chiaroscuroth more than makes up for in charm. He's not necessarily an outrageous flirt, but he'll make a move now and again if he feels he stands a chance with that particular female, especially if said female is a gold. That being said, while he may find himself enamored of a particular female every now and again, Chiaroscuroth isn't the type of dragon to settle down with a single mate, and unless T'sani is particularly distressed by his choice to do so, will chase practically any rising dragon.
Should he win a mating flight, Chiaroscuroth will try to be a good mate, but unless he holds a particular interest in the female he caught, he won't be all that good at it. This isn't because he's a player who simply wants to get the most notches on his bedpost, so to speak, but because of his social tendencies. Chiaroscuroth likes to meet new dragons, and his emotions tend to fluctuate accordingly; he might become infatuated with a particular green for a while, but unless she's got the right sort of bright, vibrant personality, he'll quickly grow bored with her and move on.
Threadfall:
Fighting Thread is the best job in the world. It's difficult, yes, and extremely dangerous, but in spite of that, Chiaroscuroth loves it because Thread never falls the same way twice. It always keeps him on his toes, keeps him mentally stimulated and concentrating on how to get himself and T'sani through 'Fall unscathed. Because of this focus, he isn't apt to get majorly injured unless the circumstances of a particular Threadfall are exceedingly difficult.
In spite of his efficiency, however, Chiaroscuroth isn't likely to make Wingleader, at least not at first. While he can last a full Threadfall, the fact that he is easily outlasted by pretty much every other bronze in the Weyr means that he's unlikely to be considered for the position. That isn't to say that it'll never happen, but he and T'sani will definitely have to work for it. Wingsecond is another matter entirely, and with their combined mental fortitude, the pair may find themselves in high demand for that rank someday.
Mindvoice:
Unsurprisingly, Chiaroscuroth's mindvoice is very light and quick, though remarkably pleasant to hear. It's on the high end of the tenor range, and he compensates for his tendency to talk very quickly by enunciating his words very precisely, though that sometimes doesn't help if he opts to use big words. He doesn't have much of a vocal range otherwise; his voice gets raspy and rough if he tries to talk in too low a pitch, and if he gets overly excited, startled, angry, or otherwise emotionally riled up, his voice breaks and tends to develop a bit of a squeak. Because of this, he compensates by injecting a large amount of emotion into his words; you might not always be able to decipher his tone, but the feeling that accompany what he's saying to you make his moods quite plain and easy to read.
Description:
For a bronze dragon, Chiaroscuroth is downright tiny. He doesn't even fully reach the minimum length expected of his color, topping off only at 36 feet, and could almost be considered dainty. He's nowhere near as broad across the chest and shoulders as his bronze brethren, being more slender and streamlined than is usually looked for in a dragon of his color. That being said, there's not a single bronze dragon on all of Pern that can twist and turn in mid-air as he can, and he is by far one of the fastest bronzes, even if he does sacrifice a fair amount of stamina because of it. His wings are long and narrow to aid him in his fast, darting flights of fancy.
This inherent daintiness leaves its mark on his every feature, as well. For the duration of his life, Chiaroscuroth is more apt to be called cute instead of handsome, which one might consider to be an odd description for one of Pern's majestic, mighty bronze dragons. It's only the truth, however; Chiaroscuroth's muzzle is long and narrow, his features fine-boned almost to the point of delicacy. He has large, wide eyes set beneath highly arched eye ridges, giving him a perpetually startled expression. This is only enhanced by the fact that he tends to move in quick, sharp jerks, as if something had frightened him into action. Nevertheless, he's still a good looking fellow; his hide is predominantly a warm, tawny gold-bronze hue, with darker, piebald patches of true bronze along his back, shoulders and head. The same color graces the arms and fingers of his wings, while the sails themselves lighten back out into a lighter shade of gold-bronze once again.
